Preparing to Serve

On October 6th, 2012, almost one year ago today, President Thomas S. Monson made an incredible announcement concerning missionary work. That announcement was this: "I am pleased to announce that effective immediately all worthy and able young men who have graduated from high school or its equivalent, regardless of where they live, will have the option of being recommended for missionary service beginning at the age of 18, instead of age 19. I am not suggesting that all young men will—or should—serve at this earlier age. Rather, based on individual circumstances as well as upon a determination by priesthood leaders, this option is now available.
As we have prayerfully pondered the age at which young men may begin their missionary service, we have also given consideration to the age at which a young woman might serve. Today I am pleased to announce that able, worthy young women who have the desire to serve may be recommended for missionary service beginning at age 19, instead of age 21."
I have always dreamed of serving the Lord on a mission since I was a little girl. I never thought that I would have the opportunity to serve though-- because 21 is an awkward time in any life to drop everything and leave for two years or eighteen months. I always knew though, in my heart, that I would serve a mission. Serving a mission is a huge decision-- for men it comes much easier because they are commanded to go and know that is what they are suppose to do-- it's not so easy for girls. For most girls, it involves a lot of heartfelt prayer, scripture reading, and pondering. For me, it was a different scenario. Yes, I prayed about the decision to serve a mission, but I never had to really think about it. It just felt right.
Today during the Saturday morning session of the 183rd semi annual general conference, President Thomas S. Monson announced that one year ago The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints had 58,500 missionaries. Today the church has 80,333 missionaries. The Lord is truly hastening His work here upon the earth.
I love this video. All of these people are so eager and willing to serve the Lord. Get tissues ready!

In just eleven days I will be turning in my mission papers. I have no words to describe how unbelievably excited I am.
I know that The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints is true. I know it with all my heart. I am so grateful for our dear Prophet, President Thomas S. Monson and for the revelation he receives to guide the church in these Latter Days. I know that Joseph Smith is a true Prophet and that he really did restore the gospel of Jesus Christ to the earth in this last dispensation. I know that Heavenly Father and our Savior, Jesus Christ love us and know each of us personally. They watch over us and they hear each and every one of our prayers. I know that the Book of Mormon is true and that we can receive answers to our prayers through reading the scriptures.
I am so grateful for this gospel. It is what makes me happy. Sometimes I fear that I will get called somewhere really scary and that I won't be able to handle it, but I know that Heavenly Father doesn't give His children anything they can't handle and I have faith that He will send me somewhere where I am suppose to be for a reason.
I could have my mission call in three weeks! I will definitely be posting a video of where I will be called to serve.
God lives and He loves us.
Sealed with a kiss,
Natalie
